Dark rock music -"THE ART OF DARKNESS"

"DARK ROCK" also known as dark alternative . DARK ROCK is a broad style of music that (to varying degrees) generally displays the same musical and lyrical tones as gothic rock, alternative rock and heavy metal, but is not directly considered a part of the subcultures of any of these genres.

There's not much to say about the origin and history of Dark rock but there are some interesting stories related to Dark rock.

One of these interesting stories is the story of a dark rock band called "Mayhem". The Mayhem emerged from Norway in 1984, Mayhem set out to be a controversial and extremely dark band.

Lead singer Per “Dead” Ohlin, who joined the band in 1988, wore black and white makeup to look like a corpse and buried his clothes before wearing them so he looked like he just came out of a grave. Ohlin’s obsession would take a very dark turn on August 8, 1991, when Ohlin cut his wrists and shot himself in the head in a house that was owned by the band. In his suicide note, he apologized for the blood.The band’s founder and guitarist, Oystein Aarseth, found the 22-year-old’s body. He then went to the store, bought a disposable camera, and took pictures of his former bandmate. One of the pictures was later used in the artwork of a bootleg live album called Dawn of the Black Hearts , which was a recording of the last concert Ohlin performed.

Varg Vickernes was later sentenced to 21 years in prison after stabbing Aarseth 23 times in the neck, face and back , and burning down numerous churches.

One month after Aarseth’s murder, Mayhem released their album De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas , which featured Aarseth on guitar and Vikernes on bass. Mayhem carried on as a band despite losing two members.

Another example is  Ozzy Osbourne is front man for the heavy metal group, Black Sabbath.

 Constantly delving into witchcraft, he has continued to emphasize it after leaving Black Sabbath. On his album, Blizzard of Oz, he sang a song about one of the leading satanists of the 20th century, Aleister Crowley.

As part of his satanic ritual, he publicly bites the head off a live bat.
"People are known to have committed suicide after listening to his song, Suicide Solution ".

Dark rock is rumoured to be demonic and involve the practise of witchcraft and worship of Satan. I don't know though  because in spite all these, people still seem to really love "dark rock" , after all, it's still Music .
