Does the weeknd resent his past?

Recently, in his video. The weeknd kills a doppelganger of himself representing his past.

In this video, the new weeknd wears a simple haircut in opposition to his doppelganger who wears  "Dreadlocks".
His hairstyle—which was partly inspired by Jean-Michel Basquiat , has quite a history with the weeknd and has been his most recognizable trait since he was an upcoming artist.
He began growing the old hair style around 2011: "I want to be remembered as iconic and different," he said. "So I was like, 'Fuck it — I'm gonna let my hair just be what it wants.' I'll probably cut it if it starts interfering with my sight. I can kind of see it right now. But if I cut it, I'd look like everyone else. And that's just so boring to me."

So what has changed since 2011, why would he kill his past in this new video ,did the hair interfere with his sight?-I'd think not cause as at last year,on his Instagram page he deleted all pictures of him before his haircut . So the question now is "DOES THE WEEKEND RESENT HIS PAST? ".  If not, then what?
